Heath Ledger Wins Posthumously at Golden Globes

The late Heath Ledger was a big winner at Sunday's Golden Globes.

Heath Ledger was the posthumous winner of a Golden Globe on Sunday evening, for his mesmerizing role in The Dark Knight. Ledger had been a longtime favorite in the running, as his psychopathic, unsympathetic Joker both intrigued and enflamed viewers enough to make his appearance a truly unforgettable and jilting one.

Actress Demi Moore (whose daughter, Rumer Willis, was a ceremonial figurehead at the Golden Globes ceremony) presented the award for Best Supporting Actor to Christopher Nolan, who accepted on behalf of the late Ledger, 28. When accepting the honor bestowed upon his star by the Hollywood Foreign Press, Nolan stated, "All of us who worked with Heath on 'Dark Knight' accept this with an awful mixture of sadness but incredible pride. After Heath passed on you saw a hole rift in the future of cinema, but with the extraordinary response to his work that we've seen all over the world, I for one will start to be able to look less at the gap in the future and the incredible place Heath made for himself with his talent and with his dedication." He ended by stating, "Heath will be eternally missed but he will never be forgotten."

Kate Winslet was quite a scene-stealer, too, at the awards, winning a historic achievement: Golden Globes as Best Supporting Actress in The Reader and Best Actress in Revolutionary Road. Perhaps the Hollywood Foreign Press saw a chance to make up for the wide awards-snubbing of Titanic.

The actors behind John Adams were also big winners, as the HBO mini-series thoroughly swept the awards in the categories in which they were nominated. Tom Wilkinson won a Best Supporting Actor statue for his spirited and colorful portrayal of founding father Benjamin Franklin, while star Paul Giamatti won a Best Actor award for the title role of John Adams, and actress Laura Linney won a Best Actress award for her role as Abigail Adams.

NBC comedy 30 Rock also took home a fair share of comedy awards, including best leads for Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, who each delivered brief thank you's in speeches that fell on surprisingly unresponsive ears.

Congratulations to all!
