Actor Ricardo Montalban Dies at 88
Ricardo Montalban, one of the first Mexican-American actors to find success in Hollywood, has died from complications related to his advanced age, the Los Angeles Times reported. He was 88.
Born November 25, 1920 in Mexico City, Montalban appeared mostly in Mexican films during the early part of his career. In 1947, he was brought to Hollywood for his first American film, Fiesta.
Montalban's career spanned more than 60 years, starting in films and transitioning more to stage and television roles in the 1970s. Parts in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Fantasy Island were among more than 160 roles he played during his career.
He won an Emmy for his role as Chief Satangkai in the 1978 TV miniseries, How the West Was Won.
Montalban is survived by four children and six grandchildren. His wife, Georgiana, died in November 2007.
