Kanye Tired of the Way He is Percieved

Kanye West explains why he feels many people have the wrong impression of him in a new interview.

George Bush does not care about Black people.

Despite the fact that he has made hundreds of public appearances, released four chart-topping albums and far more hit singles and headlined one of the biggest tours of the past year, rapper, singer and producer Kanye West is still remembered by many for one unforgettable outburst on national television in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

And that, according to West himself, is his main problem. In a new interview with popular gossip site Bossip.com, West reveals his frustration with certain things he has said being taken as a reflection of his overall character.

"People think I'm crazy," he laments, "He [referring to President Barack Obama] words things very well...his main medium is that of speeches, so it requires you to list to his complete thought. Whereas with me, it's just sound bites."

But making outrageous statements has become part of what fans expect from Kanye, along with his signature production style, his love of high-fashion and avant-garde design, and, of course, his latest contribution to popular culture: the shutter-glasses.

West, however, while being aware of the way in which he is perceived, is resistant to the idea of trying to fit anything -from religion to an individual person- into any one box.

"Some people go Bapes head to toe, some people do Polo head to toe. Some people go Rocawear head to toe." he says. "Me, I kind of just go into the store and take the piece that I like the most. I'm no poster-child for any particular brand. What I have to realize...is that I'm actually a brand. I'm something that people build up and believe in. But I'm also a real person; a growing person and an artist."

If there's one quality that has been ascribed to 'Brand Kanye,' it is arrogance, with many taking offense at what they see as West's outspoken over-confidence. West, on the other hand, does not believe that the pride he takes in his work should be taken as arrogant.

"Like all these people are like he's so arrogant, blah, blah, blah," he explains. "I'm not arrogant, I'm just truthful. When I talk about myself, there are millions of people that love me, and I just agree with them."
