Producers Honor "Slumdog"

The underdogs won with the Producers of America.

In yet another triumph for those behind Slumdog Millionaire, the Producers Guild of America awarded the director of the film with this year's Producer of the Year award. Slumdog is a romantic look at the intersecting lives of Indians dreaming for a better life.

Already, Slumdog Millionaire has captured the minds of many. While most rave about the low-budget film, there have been some who have criticized the movie's appeal, namely the depiction of Indian life. Some Indians and Indian-Americans have complained that the characters in the movie are stereotypes of Indians, showing a poorer existence.

Slumdog Millionaire was nominated last week for 10 Oscar categories, putting it only second to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Button was not a box office champ, but has attracted resoundingly positive reviews, especially for Brad Pitt's tour-de-force performance. Speaking of "to[u]rs," many were surprised when Clint Eastwood's newest film, Gran Torino, was snubbed, not being nominated for an Oscar.
