Streep and Penn Win Top Honors at SAG Awards

Winners of the SAG Awards are a prelude to who could take home the Oscar next month.

Stars from both movies and television attended the 15th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday.

According to the Associated Press, Meryl Streep won for her leading role in the Roman Catholic drama, Doubt, while Sean Penn won for his role as Harvey Milk in the biography, Milk. Also, the low-budget film, Slumdog Millionaire, took home the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast.

Supporting honors went to Kate Winslet for The Reader and to the late Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight.

Also, NBC's 30 Rock swept the TV comedy honors, as well as the HBO miniseries, John Adams.

Other winners included Hugh Laurie for House, Sally Field for Brothers & Sisters, and also the cast of the hit drama, Mad Men.

The guild's lifetime achievement award went to James Earl Jones.
