Sales of Caylee Anthony Doll Suspended
According to MyFoxOrlando.com, a subsidiary of Fox News, Showbiz Promotions has canceled all sales of the Caylee Anthony doll following complaints from concerned customers.
"After reviewing the response to our media introduction of the Sunshine Caylee Doll and listening to the advice of the general public, we feel it is best to suspend the launch of the Sunshine Caylee Doll." A statement on the company's website said.
The blond-haired, blue-eyed doll, billed as an "inspirational" action figure, came complete with a T-shirt with a sun design. Caylee had auburn hair and blue eyes.
The lack of a resemblance was intentional, according to CEO Jaime Salcedo. "We thought it would be too morbid." He said.
Salcedo said he intended the doll as a tribute to the murdered 2-year old, whose remains were discovered last December in a grove near her house.
This isn't the first time Salcedo has capitalized on notoriety. In addition to the Anthony doll, he has also sold dolls featuring the likenesses of Michael Vick and former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
The alleged suspect in the attack, Casey Anthony, is in jail and awaiting trial for the murder of her daughter.
