Dare Opens at Sundance to Criticism, Disgust
Yet that is exactly the reaction they received when the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
The film revolves around a love triangle between a young college senior and two men, a jock and a sensitive guy. During the film, the audience gets to see the relationship from the point of view of all three--Alexa, Johnny and Ben. Yet in a savage review in the entertainment organ Daily Variety, Peter DeBruge described the film less as a experiment in character development and more as a "randy petri dish for sexual exprimentation."
For their part, Salky defended the film, saying in a interview with indieonline.com that the movie is "about the need to take chances to discover who you are." Despite the attention they received at Sundance, neither imagined it would be as savaged as it has been.
As for the film itself, it is getting quite a buzz. Profiles of the film are featured on Logo's website and filmmakeronline.com
