Agreement reached in insurance settlement case following Heath Ledger's unexpected death

An agreement has finally been reach between ReliaStar Insurance Co. and a lawyer for the daughter of recently deceased actor Heath Ledger.

Following the abrupt and mysterious death of Heath Ledger in January 2008, the coroner had ruled it an accidental prescription drug overdose. The insurance company insisted that an investigation take place, sighting suspicion of suicide which would void Ledger's life insurance policy.

In July of 2008 William Shernoff, a lawyer for Ledger's 3-year-old daughter filed a lawsuit claiming the $10 million was owed to his client. Negotiations have been a lengthy process following Ledger's death but a settlement was at last reached on Thursday.

Heath Ledger was found dead on January 22, 2008, following what many claimed was the performance of his career in The Dark Knight. It was found that the cause of Ledgers death was caused by acute intoxication caused by a combination of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine.
