Puss in Boots Gets Writer Wheeler
Feline hit man Puss in Boots finally has a writer for his movie, The Hollywood Reporter says.
Tom Wheeler has been picked to pen the script for the DreamWorks Animation spin-off, which will be produced by Michelle Raimo. Wheeler's only previous credits have been in television, but Empire magazine reports that he has several scripts currently in development including "Cutlass Island" and "The Arcanum."
Chris Miller, who co-wrote and co-directed "Shrek the Third," wrote an earlier version of the screenplay, according to /Film.Puss in Boots, voiced by Antonio Banderas, made his franchise debut in "Shrek 2." Though he was originally hired to kill the titular ogre, Puss eventually joined Shrek's merry band of misfits.
The three Shrek movies have made more than $2 billion worldwide at the box office, in additions to millions more in DVD sales and toy merchandising. DreamWorks has no intention of slowing down, either. "Shrek Goes Fourth" is scheduled for a May 2010 release, and a fifth film will follow. However, DreamWorks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg told the Australian publication The Age in 2007 that the Shrek movies will end after that.
DreamWorks announced earlier this month that it would be debuting its 3D trailer for "Monsters vs. Aliens" during the Super Bowl. According to the company's website, 125 million 3D glasses are being distributed through SoBe Lifewater retail displays in grocery and drug stores.
