The popular 1980s NBC series is being revamped to make its way to the silver screen but the director vows to keep as true to the original show as possible.

Fox has formed a creative team to morph the popular 1980s television series "The A-Team" into a summer 2010 film.

Joe Carnahan will direct, Ridley Scott, Jules Daly and Stephen J. Cannell, who created the original television series will produce. Tony Scott will be the executive producer under the Scott Free banner.

According to a Variety article, "Carnahan will team with Brian Bloom to polish a script by Skip Woods (G.I. Joe.) The intention is to start production by June."

The original series was comprised of four Vietnam veterans convicted of armed robbery, escape from military prison and become noble mercenaries.

The Variety article mentions the changes that will be evident in the remake such as "The Mideast will replace Vietnam as the place the team did its tour of duty, but Carnahan said the origin story is the jumping-off point. Pic has a July 11, 2010 release date."

"You can...make a film that reflects on the real world without losing the great sense of fun, and the velocity of action in a classic summer popcorn film," Carnahan said. "Having Ridley ad Tony on board lends considerable weight to that and classes up the whole project."

In order to work on this endeavor, Carnahan has moved his Pablo Escobar film, "Killing Pablo," on the back burner. That project was further convoluted by bankruptcy filing made by Yari Film Group. But, Carnahan vows that "Killing Pablo" will get made, some way, some how.

"This [The A-Team movie project] was a coveted property, and re-imaging a show that I remembered as a kid was tough to turn down," Carnahan said. "Fox hired me to make it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up."
