Angelina Jolie Visits Refugee Camp in Thailand
Recently, Angelina Jolie, the megastar and one half of Brangelina, became Angelina Jolie the United Nations Goodwill Ambassador again: She visited a refugee camp in Thailand and spent her days talking to refugees from Myanmar.
"I was saddened to meet a 21-year-old woman who was born in a refugee camp, who has never even been out of the camp and is now raising her own child in a camp," Jolie said after her visit Wednesday to Ban Mai Nai Soi camp, home to over 18,000 refugees, unhcr.org reports.
The actress called on the Thailand government to grant the refugees more freedom of movement. "I hope we can work with the Thai authorities to speed up the government admissions process and that you will not be forced to go back to Burma if danger remains," Jolie said to two teenage girls in a boarding school she visited.
Jolie became a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR eight years ago, in early 2001. She visited countries around the world on more than 30 field missions, including Sierra Leone, Namibia, Kosovo, Russia and Ecuador.
