The Man at the Center of the Baelstrom

Until recently, Shane Hurlbut was a relative unknown in Hollywood, laboring in obscurity along such luminaries as Mick Jagger and Billy Corgan. That is, until he had a little problem with actor Christian Bale.

Since Bale's four minute bleeped tirade became public, many have gawked, speculated and been made upset by Bale's outburst. But few have asked about the man at the center of the storm, the DP Bale infamously refers to as "Bruce" in the obscene clip.

According to Australia's Daily Telegraph, Hurlbut, 44, is something of a curiosity. A link to his profile on Classmates.com describes him as an "ASC" with a fat portfolio of gigs, ranging from music videos, to commercials, to feature films--including 2000's Crazy/Beautiful, with director John Stockwell.

A native of Aurora, New York, Shane is an unlikely person to be living the life in Hollywood. According to his bio, before moving to L.A., Shane was a farm boy, tapping maple trees and doing odd jobs to make a living.

According to a 1997 article in the Post-Standard of New York, Shane is listed as being married to one Lynda Kunkler.
