Carlos Mencia Opens Mouth, Inserts Foot at Mardi Gras Parade

Carlos Mencia may have a hit TV Show on Comedy Central, but that didn't prevent him from getting yanked out of a Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans.

Mencia's removal comes after the comedian made a series of jokes that were perceived as offensive toward survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

According to the AP, the Krewe of New Orleans made the announcement after it was discovered that Mencia would be a guest at one of several parades scheduled for this year. Said Krewe Captain Sonny Borey, the club "became aware of certain remarks Mr. Mencia has made in regards to New Orleans and Hurricane Katrina." Although Borey would not elaborate, in the past, Mencia has made statements on his Mind of Mencia show about Katrina victims, most notably a clip from Season One where he famously said, "A bad day in New Orleans beats a good day in Yemen."

In addition to his appearance in the Mardi Gras parade, Mencia was also scheduled to perform at the Orpheus ballroom at the parade.

According to Krewe officials, Mencia has been replaced by Joan Rivers, the former comedian and talk show host known for her commentaries during the Oscars and other award shows. Krewe officials deny that she is a replacement for Mencia.

The addition of Rivers brings the celebrity guest list to seven, including Jim Belushi of According to Jim fame and Mad Men's Bryan Batt.
