It's the Biggest Night in Music
Tonight's the night. It's time for the 51st Grammy Awards. The predictions are in, and the expectations are high.
The Los Angeles Times has high hopes for Coldplay, predicting they will take home the Grammy for record and song of the year. The two categories are won by the same artist 60 percent of the time.
The hype for this year's Grammys has promised viewers an eventful show. There will be performances by a number of musical legends, including Paul McCartney, Neil Diamond and Stevie Wonder, and more recent musical successes such as Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
MTV started to speculate earlier this week about whether or not the event will have enough time to hand out the awards because of the number of scheduled performances.
There will also be a collaboration between four of the rap industry's greatest. T.I., Lil Wayne, Jay-Z and Kanye West will perform "Swagga Like Us" together for the first time. The night should be special for rapper T.I., who starts his prison sentence for felony gun charges next month.
"It's really gonna be his moment that night. Him, Wayne, like a lot of the best rappers, it's gonna be their moment that night. ... So, obviously, it's gonna be an overwhelming moment," West told MTV.
The Grammys have stepped up their game this year. BBC News reports that it has repaired past mistakes by giving out awards to acts that have been overlooked in the past. The nomination roster includes a lot more rap artists this year, as well as nominations in the indie rock and electronic music genres.
Tune in tonight to see who takes home a Grammy and if there's time to hand them out!
