Field of Dreams Celebration Canceled

Terrence Mann may have helped Ray Kinsella build a ball field in the Midwest, but he can't stop the "Field of Dreams" anniversary bash from being canceled.

According to the AP, the owners of the Field of Dreams Movie Site, in Dyersville, Iowa, have called off plans for a 20 year anniversary celebration of the film's release, citing the economic recession.

"With so many people losing their jobs, it makes no sense to spend money on a celebration," Don and Becky Lansing said.

In lieu of the party, the Lansings will donate over $5,000 to a local food bank. In a statement, they said that the donation would be a better use of funds.

Founded in 1989, shortly after the release of the film of the same name, the Field of Dreams Movie Site is a nonprofit institution, serving tourists as well as hosting charity baseball games. According to a fan Web site, in 2007, the Lansings gained full control of the ballpark after the other owners sold their shares to the family.
