Bristol Palin Talks About Teen Motherhood

Bristol Palin understands that teen pregnancy may not be an ideal situation, but she says teaching abstinence is unrealistic.

Bristol Palin is the daughter of Alaskan Governor and former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, whose advocacy for teaching abstinence struck a chord with the media, especially since the Governor's teenage daughter was pregnant out of wedlock during the time of the campaign.

Palin gave birth to her son, Tripp, on December 27, 2008. Gov. Palin had a strong stand on anti-abortion, but the 18-year-old said that her mother's view on the issue didn't influence her decision to keep the baby, according to ExtraTV.

Palin loves being a mom and doesn't regret her decision to have Tripp; however, she wishes it could have happened 10 years down the road so she could have been prepared with a job, education, and her own home, according to the Associated Press.

The New York Times reports that Palin said that abstinence is "not realistic" and that premarital sex is more accepted among people her age, but she hopes her story will help change that acceptance. "It's so much easier if you're married, have a house and career. It's not a situation you want to strive for," Palin said in an interview with Fox News.
