Brand-New: 80-Year-Old Tolkien Book
17-Feb-2009
Written by: Johanna Schoenfeld
Never-before published tale by “Lord of the Rings” author to be released in May.
It’s been a long time coming: An at least 80-year-old book by J. R. R. Tolkien is coming out for the first time, Yahoo reports. The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun will be published in May by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, the company that has been publishing all of Tolkien’s works for 65 years.
The new, old book is apparently a reworking in verse of old Norse epics, and has been written in the 1920s and 1930s, while Tolkien was teaching at Oxford University and long before the author’s famous “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun will be edited and introduced by Tolkien’s son, Christopher.
J. R. R. Tolkien died in 1973. He was a successful author of fantasy novels and is widely known for his Middle Earth books, most prominently The Lord of the Rings.
