Screenwriter Sued by Ex-Girlfriend for $5 Million

Screenwriter Shane Black is being sued by his former girlfriend for battery and emotional distress.

Hollywood screenwriter Shane Black is being accused of terrorizing his former girlfriend, Sonya Popovich. She alleges he physically assaulted her on several occasions, often in a drug-fueled rage, and at one point even wielded a loaded weapon in her direction.

Black is most famous for writing "Lethal Weapon," "The Last Boy Scout," and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." According to TMZ, Popovich is now suing him for more than $5 million for battery and emotional distress. In her lawsuit, she claims after a night of heavy cocaine use Shane put a gun in his mouth and then pointed the gun in her direction, eventually discharging it into the wall.

The same year, Popovich claims he tried to suffocate her and in the process, caused a hairline split in her esophagus. As a result, she ended up in the hospital where the abuse continued. Popovich alleges he visited her while she was hospitalized and "crawled into [her] bed, removed a vial of cocaine from his pocket, sniffed some cocaine from the vial, and proceeded to masturbate in Plaintiff's hospital bed."

There has been no comment from Black.
