Woman Fails Driving Test 775 Times

Despite the many failed attempts, this woman is committed to passing.

When was the last time you tried to do something and eventually gave up? Maybe it was learning to play the guitar, maybe it was kicking the smoking habit. Think about how many times or how long you gave it an honest effort. Now consider the story of Cha Sa-soon, a 68-year-old woman from South Korea who has been trying since 2005 to get her driver's license.

Reuters reported that the exam has a written portion that requires a 60 percent passing score in order to receive a license. Cha has not quite gotten there yet.

Said Cha, "I've looked up some guidebooks to get a driver's license, and they were saying it takes at most five years to get this. It's already been four years, so I might pass the next time. That's what I hope for."

Cha is from the North Jeolla province in Korea, a rural area where you're just as likely to see tractors or cows on the dusty roads as cars or trucks. There are driving courses that help students receive a license in a week, but these courses are usually only offered in metropolitan areas, far from where Cha is diligently pursuing hers.

Despite the 10 million won (approximately $6,800) she has spent on test fees, Cha is still determined: "I believe you can achieve your goal if you persistently pursue it. So don't give up your dream, like me. Be strong and do your best." We can all take a lesson from her on persistence – just don't ask her to show you how to parallel park.
