The 2009 Oscars Brought Change
Hugh Jackman hosted what may have been the most entertaining night in film. The Associated Press reports that last year's Oscar ratings were the worst they had ever been. This prompted the producers to liven up the show, starting with picking an actor over a comedian as the evening's host. Their decision proved smart as Jackman entertained the audience with various song and dance numbers. He paired with actress Anne Hathaway for a musical tribute to the nominated films for best motion picture. Later he paid homage to Hollywood musicals alongside actress and singer Beyonce.
Jackman may not be a comedian like past hosts have been, but he still kept the jokes coming throughout the night. He poked fun at nominated actors and actresses in the audience, including Mickey Rourke, Meryl Streep and Brad and Angelina, according to Reuters UK.The presentation of the nominees for best original song was done differently, as the three performances were back-to-back in a medley of song. The presentation of awards was also changed this year, featuring past recipients presenting the nominations along with personal tributes to each contender. This was done in place of the traditional banter between celebrity presenters as they give the award.
