Written by: Whitney Luce
Condoleezza Rice signs 2.5 million dollar book deal.
According to Palo Alto Online News, Condoleezza Rice has been given a 3-book deal with Crown publishers. Condoleezza Rice was a well-known household name during the Bush administration. She served as national security adviser, followed by secretary of state. Associated Press reports that the trilogy will begin with a memoir of the White House years. The book is scheduled for publication in 2011. The second book will be a memoir of family and is poised for debut in 2012. This book will explore Rice’s upbringing during segregation in Birmingham, Alabama. According to Crown, her family memoir will describe her “upbringing in the context of extraordinary efforts made by parents and others in the community to raise children against the fading backdrop of Jim Crow (segregation) laws and emergent civil rights initiatives.” The New York Times reports that the book deal was announced on Sunday by Crown’s Vice President and Publisher, Tina Constable. The books are not yet titled. As Rice has been subject to much controversy with her involvement in the Bush administration, we will have to wait and see how the books fare with the public. The Associated Press cites Condoleezza as being more likeable than Bush and Cheney, despite criticism. Crown also published former Senator Obama’s book, The Audacity of Hope.
