Party for a Cause: Elton John's Oscar Bash
The stars were shining at Elton John's 17th annual Oscar bash following the awards show Sunday night. Guests included David and Victoria Beckham, Nicole Kidman, Mary J. Blige, Donatella Versace, Kiefer Sutherland, Eva La Rue, Chris O'Donnell, and many more.
Although excitement filled the air, WWD reports that hard economic times were also being felt. There was concern of an actors' strike and security was especially tight. WWD spoke to Tyrese Gibson regarding the strike. He stated, "A strike would not be good, not in this economy - I might have to drop another album." I'm over my cell minutes, I've got to pay that bill." Sir Ben Kingsley sounded off about harsh economic times as well, saying to WWD, "We're lucky to be here. I'm so happy to see such a talented group, but that doesn't mean we don't see the larger picture."
The Insider spoke to Eva La Rue who confirmed that Elton John's Oscar party was the place to be, stating, "Year in and year out if you're not going to the Kodak Theatre party then it's either Vanity Fair or Elton John." She goes on to state her preference for Elton John's celebration, telling The Insider, "This is a party with a heart." It was a party with a heart indeed. According to USA Today, the party successfully raised $4 million for the Elton John Aids Foundation.
