Yes, Bush Can... Or Can He?

A group of Bush supporters recently changed their minds about the upcoming election.

With the elections right around the corner, many people have already made up their minds on which candidate they want for the leader of the free world. For some, it's very plain and simple: John Kerry or George Bush. One group shows that it is possible to change sides.

An independent group who called themselves "Yes, Bush Can", has recently shut off their support for Bush and gone full throttle in support of Kerry.

The team of dedicated individuals went out of their way to support Bush and his policies. They drove all around the U.S. and had full-out presentations complete with sound and lighting effects, confetti, songs, giveaways, props and costumes. The team of Bush supporters even backed many of his policies like the Healthy Forests Initiative, his policies on domestic security, and his War on Terrorism. All was well with the group of Bush supporters until last week.

"In the course of our travels, we ended up learning more about Bush's policies than he wanted us to know," said Harmon Spellmeyer, a member of the team. "We came to see that this administration is a catastrophe for most people."

When Spellmeyer said this, she was referencing the policies that they heavily supported. The Healthy Forests Initiative allowed the logging industry to chop down the last old growth forests. In regards to domestic security, they found no one to greet them in the security booth while visiting an Ohio nuclear power plant. When they visited western Pennsylvania in endorsement of his energy policy, they discovered that it allows coal emissions, which kill approximately 23,000 people a year. As for the War on Terrorism, the team heard that Donald Rumsfeld voiced his opinion about the war in Iraq, saying that it has made the world an even more dangerous place.

As a result of all these findings, the group virtually canned the idea of "Yes, Bush Can". They have doubled their efforts for this year's elections to prevent Bush from getting back into office. They will start their campaign against Bush in Jacksonville, a majority Black city where 11,000 votes were not counted in the election of 2000. Statistics show that 179,000 votes failed to be counted and most of them were Black. It also shows that 90% of Blacks voted for Gore.
