Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony Sue Stroller Company over Unauthorized Ad
26-Feb-2009
Written by: Sara Kimball
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony sued high-end baby carriage maker Silver Cross, Ltd. in California district court on Wednesday for trademark infringement, reports the New York Daily News. The A-list couple allege that the company unlawfully used a picture of them, caravanning their twins in a Silver Cross pram, to sell its products.
The lawsuit claims that Silver Cross used the picture without the duo’s permission in print media and on its Web site, thereby deceiving the public into "believing that Lopez and Anthony endorse and sponsor" the U.K.-based pram purveyor. "In doing so, [Silver Cross] sought to associate their products with the reputations, goodwill and glamour of Lopez and Anthony, as well as Lopez's world-famous brand of apparel, cosmetics and fragrances," states the complaint.
Lopez and Anthony are seeking at least $5 million in damages, a permanent injunction against any further unauthorized use of their names or images, and any money that may have been made by the misappropriation of the duo’s celebrity.
