According to the Star Ledger, Geisel took the pen name, "Dr. Seuss," as a freshmen at Dartmouth College. Geisel was the editor-in-chief of the school paper, the Dartmouth Jack-O-Lantern. He was forced to resign from activities after getting in trouble for throwing a drinking party during prohibition. In order to keep his job on the school paper, Geisel came up with the pen name, Dr. Seuss.
Many school children are celebrating today with Read Across America Day, according to Newschannelfive.com.
