American Idol - Top 13 Results

Two people are going home and the new twist is explained.

Ryan explains that there is a big twist and a double elimination. Ryan thanks the voters, says hello to the Top 13, and the judges. Ryan explains the twist. Several contestants got a dramatic cut back in the day. Ryan explains "The Judge's Save." The judges can save one person in the whole competition, until the Top Five. It will be a non-elimination, followed by a double elimination. With this explanation Daughtry couldn't have been saved, because he was eliminated in fourth. Tamyra Gray was eliminated fourth as well. Ryan tries using that as an excuse.

There is a clip show of the house that everyone is staying in. It's a huge mansion. People have a great time. Allison calls someone from the bathroom. Alexis's house could fit in the bathroom. After the clip show, the contestants sing a Jackson 5 medley. They actually make Scott dance. Jorge has to push him a little bit so he gets to his right places. I can't help but watch him the whole time. Alexis helps him next. Danny has a dance solo. What? When did this become So You Think You Can Dance? It on a whole, isn't as disastrous as one would hope.

Idol Exclusive moment: Nathaniel Marshall apparently sang Proud Mary for his audition. They show five seconds before they cut him off.

After recapping last night (Lil, Michael, and Jasmine were forgettable; Adam, Allison, and Alexis stood out; the wild cards sucked) Ryan talks to the contestants. Michael feels out of place with the dancing and explains that everything is busy. He then hypes the Ford music video. It's Queen's "We Will Rock You." The contestants have videos of them singing on the sides of buildings, except for Adam whose video is sprawled on the hood of the car.

Ryan announces that Michael, Allison, Matt (although he started walking to the center prematurely), Kris are safe. Jasmine and Megan are brought to the center of the stage. One of the two is going home. Ryan announces that Megan is safe and Jasmine is going home. If, the judges say so. She sings while the judges decide. She's even more flat tonight, probably because she knows she's going home. Randy announces that she's going home. She's in tears and Ryan genuinely tries to cheer her up. They show her clip show and she's in tears the whole time.

Kanye West performs "Heartless." I still find the whole performance to be unnecessary. His voice warbler is on overdrive, because he can't actually sing. That's not a good message for Idol contestants: You don't actually need vocal ability. One of Kanye's backup singers has insane shoulder pads. He's actually flat as well.

After the commercial, Ryan continues with the eliminations. Scott, Alexis, Danny, Adam and Lil are safe. Anoop and Jorge are in the center. They are forced to wait.

Kelly Clarkson returns and hugs Ryan. She admits that she's nervous that she will be judged after. She explains that there are influences from many genres in her new album. As she performs, she shows professionalism and confidence. I hope the people on the bench are taking notes. It's even better that she's performing live. I think her volume level is a little off, but she keeps going in stride.

After the commercial, we're back to the results and Anoop is safe. Jorge sings, while the judges deliberate. Jorge's voice wavers in fear, but he hits the chorus with as much energy as he has left. Simon announces that they aren't saving Jorge.
