Brown Withdraws Name from Kids' Choice Awards Ballot
It looks like Chris Brown has finally bowed to the pressure.
The embattled R&B singer has taken his name off the ballot for the 2009 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, according to the New York Daily News. He had been nominated for favorite male singer and favorite song for his hit collaboration with T-Pain, "Kiss Kiss."
Brown, 19, who is currently facing criminal charges for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, fellow entertainer Rihanna, 21, had been the target of a petition demanding his name be removed from the list of nominations. He, along with Nickelodeon, has also been attacked by CNN anchor Campbell Brown for remaining on the ballot of an award show targeted at children, while he is under investigation for felony charges.
The singer's representatives claim that while he "would like to speak directly to his fans, he can't because of his criminal case."
Brown appeared in court March 5 to ask for a postponement of his arraignment, a request which was granted by the L.A. judge. He will return to the courthouse April 6 to face charges of assault likely to cause great bodily injury and making criminal threats, according to MSNBC.
