Mira Sorvino Gives Birth to Baby Girl

The Hollywood baby boom continues.
Actress Mira Sorvino is said to be doing well after giving birth to an eight pound baby girl in Los Angeles, last Wednesday. The child's name has yet to be released, but People magazine reports that Sorvino and her new bundle of joy are resting comfortably at home.
It is the first child for the Academy Award winning actress and her husband, aspiring actor Chris Backus. The couple met in 2003 at a West Hollywood eatery, and exchanged vows in a secret June ceremony in Santa Barbara.
The actress, 37, has starred in films such as the cult classic "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion," "Wisegirls," and the Woody Allen film "Mighty Aphrodite," for which she won the Oscar. Her latest project, the comedy "Instant Karma," is tentatively scheduled for release in 2005.
This year has proven to be a fertile one for Hollywood starlets. Debra Messing, Courtney Cox, and Kate Hudson all became members of the elite superstar moms club in 2004, while actresses Liv Tyler and Julia Roberts will be joining their ranks by years end.
