Coldplay Announces North American Tour Dates
British alt-rockers Coldplay have announced a North American summer tour on their Web site.
The dates will be a continuation of the band's "Viva La Vida" tour, which began in June 2008 in support of their then new album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends.
Following the conclusion of the Oceania/Asia leg of its tour at the end of March, Coldplay will rest up for six weeks before kicking off the U.S. leg the third on the current tour at the Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Fla., on May 15.
Other currently scheduled dates include traditionally smaller concert markets like Hershey, Pa. (May 24), Des Moines, Iowa (June 12) and Omaha, Nebr. (June 13). The band will tour North America until early August, pausing only for three European festival dates in early July, including a headlining slot at Denmark's Roskilde Festival.
Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends won three Grammy Awards this year: Best Rock Album, Song of the Year and Best Vocal Pop Performance by a Duo or Group (both for the song "Viva La Vida"). The album has sold more than two million copies in the U.S. since its release in June 2008.
