American Idol Trading Cards in the Works
FreemantleMedia, the company which distributes the syndicated American Idol reality show, is in talks with Upper Deck to produce a series of collectible trading cards, according to the AP. The memorabilia will feature images of past and current contestants, judges and host Ryan Seacrest.
"The 'American Idol' brand has always been really strong in the interactive space. With the trading cards, it's just an old school way for the show to interact with the fans. It's just another form of expression for the fans to demonstrate their connection with the show and collect their favorites," said FreeMantleMedia senior manager Nora Wong.
In addition, six special cards, autographed by past and current contestants, will be slipped into the five-card packs. Among the morsels: William Hung, Nick Mitchell, Ruben Studdard and David Cook. The cards hit shelves April 21.
