Green Day Reveals Details of New Album

Punk group Green Day speaks with NME.com about the themes behind their new album, "21st Century Breakdown."

Fans of Green Day's American Idiot rejoice; the California punk-trio says that their new album will share many of their landmark 2004 release's trademark themes.

Idiot was well known for both its political commentary and having an over-arching story line to its individual tracks. According to NME.com, new album 21st Century will have those same qualities, although the focus has changed somewhat due to the changing times.

"A lot of people were born into an unlucky time, the era of George W Bush," front man Billy Joe Armstrong tells NME, mentioning the time period during which Idiot was released. "There is an optimism now with Obama," he continues.

But Armstrong, 37, says the new album will not necessarily be filled with glowing praise towards the United States' new president. "Be aware," he explains, "don't look at this guy as the answer to your prayers. You still need to be involved."

The album's plotline will revolve around two characters called "Gloria" and "Christian," and "encourages people to get involved and not put too much hope in their leaders."
