World's Cheapest Car, the Nano, Formally Launched Today

This car is scheduled to hit Indian roads in approximately four months.

As one of the most anticipated automobiles to hit the market in recent years, the Nano has generated a great deal of attention and hype due to the fact that it is being hailed as the world's cheapest car. Reportedly, the Nano will be available for purchase for just $2,000, which will appeal greatly to individuals who are searching for a cost-effective vehicle that will provide them with an alternative to public transportation.

This is particularly unfortunate for Indian consumers because of the fact that experts are speculating that demand will likely far surpass the supply when the car will officially be released in July. Unfortunately for the company, they have endured several drawbacks in the production stages of the Nano. As a result, it will take at least a full year for them to produce 100,000 cars.

The people of India will be the first to have a chance to acquire this automobile but it is expected that the market will drastically expand in the coming years. The company has confirmed that they will be launching a variation of the Nano in Europe in 2011 and they are currently evaluating the market in the United States because of its potential appeal in relation to the state of the economy.

Nano Chairman Ratan Tata discussed the process of creating and launching this automobile at a news conference when he said, "From the drawing board to its commercial launch, the car has overcome several challenges. I hope it will provide safe, affordable four-wheel transportation to families who till now have not been able to own a car."
