Cowell Wants an Obama Appearance
Cowell is perhaps the most influential judge on Idol, but does he have enough pull to get the president of the United States to come on the show? Digitalspy.com reports that Cowell told Absolute Radio, "We're trying to get him to do a show at the moment. I did get a name check from him tonight."
The "name check" Cowell is talking about refers to a comment Obama made when he appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last week. The president made a comparison between Washington, D.C. and Idol, saying, "It's a little bit like 'American Idol,' except everybody is like Simon Cowell."
Cowell was honored to receive recognition from the president and took the comment as a compliment. "Obama was basically saying Washington has become more truthful, more honest, more sincere . . . more intelligent," said Cowell, according to ExtraTV.
Obama's reference to Cowell shocked Idol host Ryan Seacrest, who ExtraTV reports texted Cowell immediately after hearing the remark. Seacrest's text read: "Obama mentioned you. I'm dying!"
