Sasha Obama Almost Felled by Meningitis
Sasha Obama may have become one of the most famous girls in America thanks to her father, Barack Obama's, ascendancy to the nation's highest office, but it turns out she almost didn't make it to the White House.
During an Internet-townhall meeting this Thursday, President Obama revealed that Sasha came down with a potentially-fatal case of meningitis when she was only three months old.
It was "very dangerous," said the president. "She had to get a spinal tap, and all sorts of things that were just bringing me to tears." Luckily Sasha, who is now 7 years old, was able to make a full recovery.
The president expressed his gratitude to the nurses that helped his daughter in her time of need, saying that he is now "biased towards nurses. I just like nurses."
Sasha, along with her sister, Malia, 10, has become a big favorite of the press since her father embarked on his historic campaign for the presidency. The press has excitedly covered Malia and Sasha events like the building of a playground for the girls on the White House grounds; surprise private concerts from pop stars like the Jonas Brothers; as well as the release of a line of dolls named after and based upon the First Daughters.
