Nickelback Wins Canada’s Juno Award
30-Mar-2009
Written by: John Winn
They may have made a name for themselves as a grunge-rock band in the United States, but that hasn’t stopped the Gordon Lightfoot loving Canucks from returning the love.
According to Daily Variety, the Vancouver-based rockers scooped up trophies at the 2009 Juno Awards--Canada's version of the Grammys.
The awards were handed out Sunday at General Motors Place. During the four-day celebration, the band proved to be a triple threat, walking away with Best Album, Best Group and Fan Choice award for their 2008 album, Dark Horse.
The band celebrated in their usual manner--performing live in front of a stadium of thousands.
The awards--and the performance--was broadcast by Canada's CTV.
Formed in 1995, Nickelback--the name comes from a saying from bass guitarist Chad Kroeger's barista days--has made itself known as a versatile quartet, playing alternative and hard rock in addition to the distorted grunge sound that has made them popular. Since then, they've charted several hits, including "How You Remind Me"--which debuted at No. 1 on both the American and Canadian charts in the late '90s, and "Never Again."
