Michelle Kwan Plans to Get Back on the Ice

Figure skater Michelle Kwan is currently training to get back on the ice.

It has been three years since Michelle Kwan has been on the ice. She spent last weekend covering the figure skating world championships in Los Angeles along with NBC broadcaster Bob Costas, but now there is a chance she may return to competing on the ice.

"There are all these rumors about me coming back, but yes, it's a possibility," she told People. "After college and the traveling I did for the state department, I came home to Los Angeles and I'm training again. I got back my triple jumps. I'm going to get in good shape and make my decision from there."

Kwan, 28, won nine U.S. championships during her skating career. In 2006, she had to withdraw from the Olympics because of a hip injury.

While off the ice, the skater has been busy studying international affairs at the University of Denver. Recently, she met with youth groups and students in Ukraine to answer their questions about life in America.

"A lot of people I meet abroad think America is Hollywood, Vegas and New York. I tell them that that is not what life is all about here and we all have much in common, like love for family and valuing education," she told People.

Now that she's back in L.A., Kwan is trying to get into "killer" shape so she can get back to training. "I have so many options, so many directions I can take, and figure skating is one of them. . . . I'm trying to decide what I want to do," she told the Washington Post.
