Levi Johnston Opens Up About the Palins

Johnston, former son-in-law-to-be to Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, talks about his relationship with the family and his experiences during the campaign in a new interview with Tyra Banks.

During Sarah Palin's failed-run for the Vice Presidency in 2008, a lot of secrets came out about the Alaska governor and her family. Now, the man who almost became that family's latest member, is spilling a few more.

Levi Johnston, 18, who is the former fiance of Palin's daughter, Bristol, as well as the father of her recently born child, Tripp, was interviewed by Tyra Banks for an episode of her talk-show set to air next Monday. According to People.com, Johnston reveals a few more details about the goings-on in the Palin household.

Even amongst attacks against the Alaska Governor's perceived lack of experience and accusations of corruption within her administration, one of the biggest shocks to watchers of the Palin campaign was the news that Bristol, still a teenager and high-school student at the time, was pregnant with Johnston's child. Critics were quick to jump on the contrast between this event and Palin's support for abstinence-only sex-education. As a result, Johnston immediately came under the spotlight of the international media.

When asked about his time living with the Palin's, Johnston said he believed Governor Palin knew about his sexual relationship with Bristol, revealing "I'm pretty sure she probably knew. Moms are pretty smart." In defense of their actions, however, Johnston insists that the couple practiced safe sex "most of the time."

Johnston and Bristol announced their engagement after news of Bristol's pregnancy became public last year, but split in early 2009, with both teenagers claiming not to be ready for marriage.

Johnston's mother, Sherry and sister, Mercede, also joined him on the show. Mercede touched on the subject of the orders their family received about talking to the press during the campaign, explaining "we were supposed to say that all questions need be brought up to the McCain campaign. Other than that we had to say 'no comment.'"

The interview will air on the April 6th episode of "The Tyra Banks Show."
