Evan Rachel Wood Not Cast in Spider-Man Musical

The Wrestler star not hitting Broadway after all

Director Julie Taymor has dismissed rumors that actress Rachel Evan Wood was cast in her "Spider-Man" musical.

According to WENN, the Broadway show, called "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark," is in fact searching for relative unknowns.

The casting announcement states, "Spider-Man is seeking principals and understudies for the roles of Peter Parker, Mary Jane and Female Lead Villain."

Wood was largely considered the front-runner for the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man's love, Mary Jane Watson.

The musical, which will include tunes by U2 stars Bono and The Edge, will open in New York City some time next year.

This is not the first time Taymor and Bono have collaborated. They last worked together on Taymor's Beatles musical, "Across the Universe," which Bono contributed a cover version of "I Am the Walrus," as well as a version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" to the film's soundtrack.

According to Daily Variety, auditions will be held across the U.S. from April 9 to May 27. They will take place in Orlando, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Austin and New York.
