Hannah Montana Tops Box Office

Hannah Montana tops box office.

Hannah Montana: The Movie debuted at number one on the movie charts this Easter weekend, with $34 million.

It also set the record on Friday, with $17.3 million, for the biggest opening day for a G-rated live-action movie, according to the Associated Press.

Hannah Montana: The Movie is based on the hit Walt Disney TV show, starring 16-year-old Miley Cyrus as an ordinary girl who leads a secret life as a pop singer.

The film earned twice as much as Disney had predicted, reports Reuters.

Girls 12 and younger and their moms made up most of the audience, reports the Associated Press. However, Mark Zoradi, president of Disney's motion-picture group, said that teenage girls were also part of the crowd.

Cyrus's previous box office hit, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour, opened with $31 million last year and was the biggest concert movie of all time, reports Reuters.
