Marlee Matlin: William Hurt Abused Me
According to the New York Daily News, the 336-page tome chronicles her struggles with deafness, addiction to drugs and the emotionally and physically abusive two-year relationship with Hurt, who co-starred with her in the 1987 movie that earned her a Best Actress Oscar.
"I was afraid," Matlin told Access Hollywood. "I was always afraid of him. But I always loved him."
According to Matlin, Hurt was battling alcoholism at the time. Yet while Matlin was caught in the throes of a bad relationship, she was battling a demon of her own. She was struggling with her addiction with cocaine.
In one scene of the book, she chronicles an attempted rape by Hurt, in which Hurt threw her on a bed and ripped her clothes off while she lay sobbing.
"I was so wrapped up in his world and my drugs," she said. "The drugs took over my life and my brain. I was 19 and alone and living in New York City. My only friend was my drug dealer."
The last time she saw Hurt was three years ago.
"I had no contact with him. I had nothing to say to him. He knows what happened. I know what happened. We both were there," she said.
