Oprah Winfrey "Tweets"

Oprah writes her first "tweet."

Oprah Winfrey is the latest celebrity to hop on the Twitter bandwagon. The talk show host sent in her first "tweet" during a taping of her show on Friday morning, MSN TV News reports.

According to the Associated Press, the studio audience cheered as Winfrey typed, "ASHTON IS NEXT," on a laptop Friday morning and submitted the message on Twitter, the social networking site of which celebrities including John Mayer and Ashton Kutcher are a part.

Winfrey received a warm welcome to the site with messages from George Stephanopoulos, Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Fallon and Shaquille O'Neal. She noted that Ashton Kutcher had one million "followers" on the site, surpassing CNN, and spoke to the actor over Skype, an Internet service that allows users to talk to one another using video and audio technology.

According to Twitter, Winfrey already has 75,000 followers. Followers are people who have requested to see her tweets.

Later in the show, she added tweets of thanks for the welcome and updates about her dog getting a rabies vaccination.
