Hud Mellencamp, Son of Rocker Dad John, Wins Golden Gloves
The product of John Mellencamp's marriage to Elaine Irwin has won a division title in the Golden Gloves boxing tournament, according to the Associated Press.
The younger Mellencamp, playing for the Indy Police Athletic League, earned a 4-1 decision against Cody Bennett of Kentucky's Southpaw Boxing Club in the 132-pound weight class. The fight took place at Indianapolis's Tyndall Armory, near the historic St. Joseph's neighborhood in downtown Indianapolis.
Following the match, Hud Mellencamp received a trophy from the judges--to say nothing about the hug he received from his famous father.
Since 1928, the Golden Gloves tournaments have spotlighted amateur and semi-professional pugilists alike. Over 29 franchises operate in the United States as well as Mexico.
Prominent alumni include fighters Joe Louis, Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay.
