Don Henley Heats Up About Copyright Infringement
18-Apr-2009
Written by: Laura Anderson

Founding member of “The Eagles” is suing Charles DeVore for using two of his songs without authorization.

Henley filed suite Friday against the Republican candidate for using Henley’s hit songs “The Boys of Summer” and “All She Wants to Do Is Dance” without authorization, according to CNN. Mick Campbell is also a plaintiff in the lawsuit since he co-wrote “Boys of Summer.”

DeVore reportedly posted on YouTube two campaign videos that used Henley’s music. He changed the lyrics in “All She Wants to Do Is Dance” to attack Sen. Barbara Boxer.

Henley’s spokesman said the legal action was to protect the song written by Henley and Campbell now and in the future. “The infringers have vowed to continue exploiting this and other copyrighted works, as it suits them, to further their own ambitions and agenda. It was necessary to file a lawsuit to stop them,” he said.

DeVore is running against Boxer in the 2010 election. In response to Henley’s legal actions, he made a few boldly refutable statements on his Web site. “We’re responding with a counter-claim, asserting our First Amendment right to political free speech. While the legal issues play out, it’s time to up the ante on Mr. Henley’s liberal goon tactics. By popular request, I have penned the words to our new parody song,” said DeVore. He followed up by posting the lyrics of “All She Wants to Do is Tax.”
