Phil Spector Guilty of Murder
Music producer Phil Spector, famous for his work with legendary bands such as the Ramones and the Beatles, has been found guilty of second-degree murder for the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson, AP news reports.
According to Spin.com, Spector faces 15 years to life in prison. On February 3, 2002, Clarkson was shot dead through the roof of her mouth at Spector's home in Alhambra, Calif. Spector's defense argued the struggling 40-year-old actress had committed suicide with Spector's .38-caliber pistol.
The night of her death, Clarkson, who at the time was working as a hostess at the House of Blues on Sunset Strip where she met Spector, was invited to go back to his mansion for drinks.
The prosecutors argued that Spector had a history of alcohol abuse and had five women testify that he had threatened them with guns. His limousine driver testified the night of the murder he heard a loud gun shot, then Spector ran outside with the gun in his hand and said, "I think I killed somebody."
According to CNN.com, in his closing arguments, prosecutor Truc Do said Spector was "a very dangerous man" who "has a history of playing Russian roulette with women-- six women. Lana just happened to be the sixth.
