Coachella Attendance Skyrockets Despite Economy
Organizers of this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which took place over the weekend in Indio, California, was a huge success, with attendance figures high enough to give it possibly the third highest attendance record in the history of the festival, New York Times reports.
This year marks the festival's tenth year running. Paul Tollett, president of the festival's promoter, Goldenvoice, spoke of the festival's success despite the economy, saying, "Anyone that has a business in 2009 is just trying to make sure that you dodge a bullet," he said. "But this went beyond that. We're super happy."
This year's headline performers included, Paul McCartney, the Cure, Joss Stone and TV on the Radio, Chicago Tribute reports.
While exact figures are still not available, it is estimated 75,000 people attended the festival.
