New Moon Werewolves Give the Vampires Some Competition

The vampires may have run the show in "Twilight," but now it's the werewolves turn in "New Moon."

Thousands came out to audition as the perfect quartet set of werewolves for the Twilight sequel, New Moon. After months of wondering who landed the roles, USA Today delivers readers with a look at the muscular guys giving the mysterious, good-looking vampires a run for their money, Bella Swan, and female fan base.

It wasn't easy and it wasn't a fast process trying to find actors with Native American or First Nation ancestry in their blood to portray the Quileute tribe, based in La Push, Wash., that exists both in the book and in real life. Plus after taking a look at these pictures, finding good looking guys willing to take their shirts off with a decent acting record under their wings must have been a slow and draining process.

"They had to have papers that proved their heritage," director Chris Weitz tells USA Today. "And they had to be in good physical shape."

But for the actors, Alex Meraz (Paul), Chaske Spencer (Sam), Bronson Pelletier (Jared), and Kiowa Gordon (Embry), costumes must have never been an issue since they mainly don shorts and pectoral muscles throughout most of the second book in the "Twilight" series. Perhaps the teenage girls who drooled over dreamy Edward may switch sides. Unless Robert Pattinson returns on screen with a sparkly aura surrounding his bare chest, I say the wolves have it in the shirtless category until proven otherwise.
