David Slade Directs Third "Twilight" Film
British director David Slade will direct the third installment of the popular "Twilight" series. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Summit Entertainment has signed Slade to take on the new project, which is planned to be released on June 30, 2010.
"I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing 'Eclipse,'" Stephenie Meyer told the Hollywood Reporter. "He's a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we've been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the 'Twilight' saga, and I'm so happy that 'Eclipse' will be carrying on with that tradition."
Melissa Rosenberg, who wrote the script for Twilight and New Moon, will also script Eclipse.
Bella Swan and Edward Cullen are getting ready to graduate high school in the third book. Their relationship gets even more complicated when mysterious killings start happening in Seattle. To add more drama into the mix, a malevolent vampire also seeks revenge.
"Stephenie Meyer's 'Eclipse' is a muscular, rich, vivid book, and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice," the President of Production at Summit, Erik Feig, told the Hollywood Reporter. "We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds."
In 2008, Catherine Hardwicke directed Twilight, which has grossed more than $350 million worldwide. The second installment, New Moon, which is being directed by Chris Weitz, is due out on Nov. 20.
