Happy Crowds Dig Jazz Fest
An array of talented performers pleased crowds this weekend at the 40th Jazz Fest in New Orleans, although organizers claim it's the "communal harmony," more than the music that keeps fans coming back, USA Today reported. Jazz Fest veterans and newcomers gathered together in the heat to groove on the music.
Soul artist Erykah Badu wooed crowds on one stage, along with New Orleans jazz bands such as Big Sam's Funky Nation, AP reports. Headlining the festival was Wilco, Kings of Leon, Neil Young, Bon Jovi and Sugarland. The grand finale was none other than James Taylor. Other performers included jazz clarinetist Pete Fountain, and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. Closing day performers included the Neville Brothers.
A conference was held after thanking the major sponsors, notably Shell Oil Co., one of the few major sponsors to continue funding the festival after 80 percent of the city was flooded by Hurricane Katrina.
