Arena Football’s Albany Firebirds Make Contract Offer to Michael Vick

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback is scheduled to go from federal prison to home confinement next month.
Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has officially been offered a contract by the Albany Firebirds of Arena Football 2 league, according to the Associated Press. Vick plead guilty to illegal interstate dog fighting practices in August of 2007 and he has been incarcerated ever since. Vick will be completing his 23-month prison sentence in a few months.
The terms of the contract are extremely intriguing since it is an incentive-laden deal that requires Vick to donate $100,000 to the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society. The base contract itself would pay Vick $200 per week as well as an additional $50 for each victory. The pending acceptance or refusal of this contract is contingent on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell lifting the suspension that was placed on Vick two years ago.
It is highly unlikely that Vick would take this contract offer seriously despite the fact that no NFL franchise has officially announced that they will attempt to sign him once his prison sentence expires. Although Vick’s presence would generate a great deal of publicity for the team that signs him, it will also inevitably create widespread controversy.
Vick was the first overall selection in the 2001 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He had become one of the NFL’s most prominent superstars in the early stages of his career until the felony dog fighting charges prompted an immediate and indefinite suspension.
