On Heels of Epidemic, Hugh Jackman Cancels Visit to Mexico

X-Men star was scheduled to make an appearance to promote his new movie.

According to the Associated Press, film distributor 20th Century has confirmed that the Australia star has canceled a trip to Mexico City amid concerns over the epidemic of swine flu.

In addition, 20th Century Fox representative Christina Inman confirms that a Wednesday premiere at Mexico's National auditorium and several other events in the country have been canceled until further notice.

Since the existence of the virus became known to U.S. authorities, all nonessential travel to Mexico has been postponed--including flights to media pressers and premieres.

The outbreak of the flu in Mexico has been particularly hard on movie houses and theaters. Attendance at theaters has plummeted as movie theaters shutter to prevent further spread of the disease.

No word on whether Jackman or the other "X-Men" actors have rescheduled appearances in Mexico.
